Andrew Sullivan discovers Mormon underwear
Andrew Sullivan, when on his game, is perhaps the most articulate blogger on the web. Alas, he is not on his game much these days. Currently, Sullivan is focusing on Mitt Romney and other Mormons. Sullivan reveals (gasp!) that pious members of the LDS church wear sacred underwear. We're even treated to photos.
Sullivan's attitude toward religion has grown ugly of late and this current "discussion" is a new low.

Given Mormonism's historic racism and bizarre beliefs, I don't know that it is entitled to much respect. I'm in the camp that doesn't think a system of beliefs is entitled to respect just because it's someone's religion. Ideas are ideas and I think all ideas should be up for free and open discussion.
There are those who would argue that religion sometimes has an ugly attitude toward *people*, and when a religion says (or has ever said) black = bad, I think it is not entitled to much respect. I'm not inclined to respect the "christianity" of the Klan, either. You know, the ones who are fond of quoting Jesus' comment about the Jews being the child of their father, the Devil.
That being said, I've never met a mean Mormon in my life. Every Mormon I've ever known has been very sweet.
